Daytona State College Emergency Medical Services receives a perfect state audit

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (March 9, 2011) – The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training program at Daytona State College received a perfect compliance audit from the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of EMS. The results were received March 8 at the college’s Daytona Beach Campus.

The Florida Department of Health, Bureau of EMS requires a rigorous compliance audit of all EMS training programs within the state every two years. The audit is designed to determine if the training programs operate in accord with Florida Statute and Administrative Code as well as deliver quality EMT and Paramedic training for the public safety workforce. There are currently 75 separate EMS training sites approved by the Bureau of EMS.

The site visit was conducted by R. C. Pippin, deputy chief of operations for the Bureau of EMS in Tallahassee. The audit includes evaluation of 23 separate points ranging from student satisfaction and success on licensing examinations to the number and type of items within physical inventory as well as relations with local public safety providers.
 
The results of the audit, delivered by Pippin to the EMS faculty and staff, the Director of the School of Emergency Services and the Associate Vice President of the College of Health, Human and Public Services was considered perfect. Pippin referred to the Daytona State College EMS program as a “role model” within Florida. Reasons cited include:  extremely high pass rates for state licensing examinations; service to the public safety community through flexible workforce scheduling, overall student satisfaction and quality of the instructional staff.

The Daytona State College EMS training program will undergo a national accreditation review this fall.
