Introduction to Solar Thermal (Hot-Water) Systems
With the assistance of the National Science Foundation PRISM (Photovoltaic and Renewable Integration to STEM Modules) Grant, the Center for Business & Industry at Daytona State College will facilitate affordable training in two renewable energy courses. Whether you are an experienced solar contractor or a plumbing or heating expert with little solar knowledge, this course will teach you the basics of solar thermal technology. “Solar thermal“ means liquid is heated by the sun’s rays to generate hot water and is the most cost-effective and efficiently renewable energy source. Classes meet Tuesday through Friday. Cost: $100.

Introduction to Solar PV Installation

Learn about tax incentives, sales and marketing, getting into the solar electric business, products & systems review, key components, mounting hardware, grounding, site design and construction analysis, inspector guidelines, NABCEP study guide, safety, pre-engineering kits, hands-on install demonstration, prospects presentation, steps for success, and advantages.Classes meet Tuesday through Friday. Cost: $100.

Adobe Photoshop CS5, Photo Printing and Color
In the deadline-driven office, you don’t have time to experiment with your designs. Daytona State College’s Adobe CS5 courses offer the perfect medium for you to learn new creative tools and techniques and develop new ideas on how to implement your creativity. More importantly, learn how to inject more fun into what you love to do! Photo Printing and Color - students will understand the various color modes and workflow, calibrate a monitor and use color management profiles to control image display, use the advanced image support features available in Photoshop, combine images, enhance the quality of images, adjust RGB colors to perform color correction for images, create high quality CMYK separations for commercial printing, and convert color images to grayscale and add spot colors to them. The fee for each one-day course is $97 per participant and includes a student workbook and Knowledge Pack. This is a hands-on course and each participant will be provided their own computer.

Excel 2007, Basic
Presented by the Center for Business and Industry at Daytona State College, this one-day course provides competency in the basic functions and features of Excel 2007. After an introduction to spreadsheet terminology and Excel's window components, students will learn how to use the Help system and navigate worksheets and workbooks. Then they will enter and edit text, values, formulas, and pictures, and they will save workbooks in various formats. Students will also move and copy data, learn about absolute and relative references, and work with ranges, rows, and columns. This course also covers simple functions, basic formatting techniques, and printing. Finally, students will create and modify charts, and learn how to manage large workbooks. The course fee is $85 and includes a student workbook with a CD-ROM containing the lab files used in class. The deadline to register for each course is one week prior to the course date.

Skills for Supervising (A focus on People and Productivity)
Presented by the Center for Business and Industry at Daytona State College, this four-session workshop is designed to develop supervisory skills. This workshop is very participative and fast moving. It combines short instruction periods, numerous group exercises, experience-sharing and role-playing to enhance the learning experience. The titles for some of the more than 30 workshop exercises include: Best Friend Now Works For Me, Good Worker Wants Out, He Is a Relative of The Owner and He is Always Late, Negative and Positive Impact People, Older Worker Retired on the Job, Getting Customer Requirements, Gantt Charts; Fish Bones, Weighted Voting, Defining Problems, Say it In a Gentler Way, Performance Feedback and Counseling. Class meets on consecutive Thursdays. Tuition is $295 per attendee.

Certified Production Technician Training Program
Presented by the Center for Business and Industry at Daytona State College, this 64 contact hour course focuses on the core skills and knowledge needed by production workers. The course also prepares participants to take the four Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Production Technician (CPT) certification examinations. Each participant receives a printed and bound workbook for each unit. Unit 1: Workplace Essentials – Provides training on the workplace skills needed in the manufacturing community to sustain the day-to-day success of their organizations. Unit 2: Safety Awareness – Provides baseline knowledge and skills needed to maintain a safe and productive work environment and ensure the safe use of equipment in the workplace. Unit 3: Production and Processes – Develops existing knowledge and skills needed for the production of products to meet customer needs while ensuring the manufacturing process meets business requirements. Unit 4: Maintenance Awareness – Provides the core knowledge of preventive maintenance and enhances existing skills in the identification and performance of equipment maintenance used in the production process. Unit 5: Quality Assurance – Enhances existing knowledge and skills needed to maintain quality and implement continuous improvement processes, and ensure that product and process variances meet quality standards.
Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays. The fee for this 64 contact hour course is $395, plus $140 for workbooks (The Center for Business Excellence may provide funding for this program. Please contact their Business Services Hotline at (386) 323-7079 for more information.) The MSSC offers four computerbased assessments. Individuals earn a certificate for each test they pass and earn the full MSSC Certified Production Technician (CPT) Certification when they pass all four tests. Daytona State College is a certified MSSC Assessment Center. Additional fees apply for assessment and certification.

Presented by the Center for Business and Industry at Daytona State College, this Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2010 training class is designed for students who desire to gain the necessary skills to create, edit, format, and print basic Microsoft Excel 2010 worksheets. Students will create and edit basic worksheets and workbooks.
