The purpose of the P.E.R.T. is to determine which course placements are appropriate for students and whether or not remedial work is needed. P.E.R.T. uses computerized adaptive testing technology to select specific test questions that are best suited for each particular test taker. A student’s performance on one P.E.R.T. question determines the difficulty level of the next question that will be delivered. Two things determine a student’s score: how many questions were answered correctly and the difficulty level of the questions that were answered correctly.
Per Florida State Rule 6A-10.0315, a degree seeking studnet has a maximum of two (2) attempts on the aproved placement test (P.E.R.T.) or alternate assessment once the student is admittedf to the college. Prior to the second attempt at the test remediation must occur. Documentation of the completed remediation is required. Eligibility to retest is determined by an Academic Advisor.
The P.E.R.T. system includes three computer-adaptive (currently linear for Writing and Math), multiple choice tests. The three core tests include Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
